The Original
This was our first product. A larger, more elaborate sensory mat built around a single idea: that a snuffle mat should grow with the dog, not be outgrown.
The result is a 60 × 80cm modular foraging mat. The mat has multiple texture zones built in — chenille loops, fleece strips, woven ribbons, wool-felt panels — and three detachable toys that lift off for solo play and click back in to expand or rearrange the foraging surface.
The three detachables
- The Snuffle Ball — a soft fleece pom-pom with hidden pockets for kibble. Off the mat, it’s a flop-it-around floor toy. On the mat, it sits in a fitted recess and adds a third dimension to a flat foraging session.
- The Snuffle Cube — a striped fabric cube with an internal cavity for treats. Slow-feeder for the eager eater; sniff puzzle for the patient one.
- The Snuffle Bag — a deeper cup-shaped pouch lined with cut ribbons. Hides larger treats; rewards a more committed nose.
Each one is sewn from the same Oxford cotton, fleece, and chenille used in the mat itself, so the textures stay consistent whether the toy is on or off the mat.
Why the modular idea matters
Most snuffle mats are a single static challenge. After a few weeks the dog knows where every loop is. The Original was designed so you could rotate the detachables, hide treats in different sections, and keep the puzzle feeling fresh for months — without buying a new mat.
It’s also the reason the next edition is in development. The modular principle is the bit we kept.
What happened to the first run
We made it in small numbers. Word of mouth did the rest of the work, and the run was gone. We’re not making more of the Original.
The successor is in development now, informed by everything owners told us about size, weight, washability, and the detachable toys.
In the meantime, our current range carries the same craft, the same fabric mix, and the same considered design — just in a smaller-format bone shape, more practical for daily use.
